One more. That’s three!
Freespeed says goodbye to another Ultimate heavyweight of the past decade.
On the field we called him the „king of the cutters“. Probably only few players can outplay him when it comes to efficiency. An inch too far to the left, a fraction of a second too late – he’s gone. Wide open. He was the oldest player still to play in the competitive squad – and still beat many of the young, athletic players.
But he was much more than just a player for this team! After Freespeed was founded in 1996 and quickly made it’s way to the swiss A league, he was the one planting the seed for the competitiveness and the growth of the team. Soon after the turn of the millennium he brought modern Ultimate from Bern (he had previously been playing for Flying Angels Bern) and introduced his knowledge from his sports studies. Long story short: without him, Freespeed would not be where it is today!
Through the last years he slowly stepped back bit by bit. He did this in the noblest way the team could imagine. He was on the field when he was needed. He made way for young talents when he felt it was the moment to. He was there to give advices. He motivated and supported young players. In 2014 he took one last big effort before ending his more than 20 year long competitive Ultimate career with another year of awesome athleticism, tremendous experience and his filigree way of playing!
Phippu, thank you for everything! Take care, stay healthy, enjoy your wonderful family and see you around!
