Freespeed in Bologna – with 3 teams!

for the first time ever, Freespeed attended an international tournament with three teams at once! a young squad from the ‚one‘, the competitive open team, the second open team Free2speed and the Freespeed Ladies all drove those 8 hours to Bologna to enjoy a last tournament on grass as well as two last warm and sunny days this year.

All teams had a great time and were able to work with many new players on the field. but bologna is typically a tournament where the off-field action makes an important part: barbecue next to the field, ‚Giro‘ (a funny game that requires a ball, which seems for many players to be a very surprising – not to say disturbing – object at a frisbee tournament), Warmup in the gym, Sambuca shots after the last game, a blast at a rather minimalisticly set up party and much more…

swiss open & women championships 2013

SATURDAY

the FREESPEED LADIES played strong on saturday and got two victories on the board! this made the team jump up one rank and qualify for the semi finals on sunday morning. semis will be against ZUF, the so far unbeaten and unchallenged team of this season and current swiss champion.

FREE2SPEED finally won their first game of this year’schampionship on saturday! one more game for 5th place in the lower swiss league will be their sunday program.

FREESPEED managed to bring home a hard fought early morning game against Solebang (17:13). the second game against the Flying Angels was one of the most intense games of this season. with some breaks and rebreaks on both side the game was decided in double gamepoint. Freespeed worked the last offense patiently down the field to take the game 17:16! the last game against Panthers was another tough challenge – as expected! some breaks at the end of the game made the score look like an easy win, but it certainly wasn’t: 17:11. with three victories on saturday, the Freespeed open team qualified for the finals! (8th consecutive final in the swiss championships).

SUNDAY

the FREESPEED LADIES fought hard in the semi finals, but couldn’t do much against the dominating team ZUF. after this loss the team didn’t have the best game for 3rd place. a few great plays and some attempts to get the energy back on the field were not enough to counter FABulous‘ solid game. 4th place for FREESPEED LADIES.

FREE2SPEED brought home the good news of the day. in a rematch of their saturday evening game they beat Panthers 2 again and finished on 5th place of the lower swiss league.

FREESPEED played a good final against Flying Angels. but not good enough. only one break on each side throughout the game shows the impressive work and high level from both O-lines. well, FAB started the game on O, so they started the double game point on O too. and scored the last point to 16:15 with some luck on a stall-9 huck.
pragmatically spoken, Freespeed lost the game with their D-line which didn’t convert their D-blocks, by throwing away some discs with not much pressure… congrats to FAB.

Swiss championships 2013, june 22nd&23rd, final round, the Freespeed preview

WOMEN

the FREESPEED LADIES ended the fist weekend with a 1-3 balance in the round robin (7 teams) with two games left to play. two of the three losses were close games against the current number 2 and 3 (11:13 to MICZ respectively 13:14 to FABulous). ranked 5th right now, the Ladies still have best chances to proceed to the semis. the key to qualify will be the game against Ultimate-li, a Lucerne based team, at 15:45 on saturday. the winner of this game will take the last spot of the semis!
ZUF has allready qualified and is dominating the division with an impressive 47 point margin out of 4 games. FABulous and MICZ are most certainly through aswell, since they both beat the potential rivals Ultimate-li and Freespeed Ladies.

OPEN National League B
FREE2SPEED lost all their games on the first weekend. on the bottom of the second league they will be fighting to move away from the last place. with some reinforcement from the Freespeedies (juniors) they are ready to take on Slowhand and Panthers 2 on saturday. depending on the saturday results the second Freespeed open team will be playing for 3rd or 5th place in the national league B on sunday.
Wombat Ultimate and HiJack (currently league B) are the two teams challenging the lower A league teams in the play-outs. Wizards and Crazy Dogs 2 (currently league A) have to find their way back on the winning road to fight back the potential climbers and prevent their drop to the second swiss open league!

OPEN National League A
after losing to strong playing Crazy Dogs on the first weekend, no more losses, no more excuses are allowed for the FREESPEED open team to reach one of the 2013 season’s goals! They have to win all their games vs. Solebang, Flying Angels and Panthers on saturday to proceed to the finals (no semis, 1 and 2 play finals, 3 and 4 play 3rd place game, and so on). after a good performance at Windmill Windup last weekend (3rd place) the team is looking at the challenge with confidence!
Crazy Dogs‘ victory against Freespeed is extending the long time duel between Flying Angels and Freespeed, making it a triangle battle for the finals. those three teams and Solebang all have a chance to the finals. whoever will make it into finals, some hot games are promised for the weekend!

the games will take place at Sportanlage Eizmoos, Cham, Switzerland. more informations about the event, location and schedule can be found on:
