For the first time ever, the swiss national junior championship was held in three divisions: U20, U17 and U14. Freespeed had a team in the U20 and in the U14 division.
U20:
The under 20 team consisted of some players who already train with the elite team and some rather unexperienced players. All players did a really great job and reached the finals in a convincing way. The finals were played in windy and wet conditions, forcing both teams to numerous turnovers. In a contested double game point the Panthers from Bern ended the game with a hammer to win another title. Despite the possibility to win this game, ending second was a great success for the rather young Freespeedies U20 squad!
U14:
Some of the U14 players had played a tournament before, for others it was the first tournament ever. The kids did a great job supporting each other and not complaining about errors and losses. There weren’t many losses to complain about anyway. The very young team (most players were 10 or 11 years old) lost one pool game to Headless Zürich, but qualified for the finals anyway. In a dramatic end, the team managed to come back from 3:5 to win the game 6:5 and win the first ever U14 title in Switzerland!
